Gmail is a webmail which provides free email service developed by Google. Users can access Gmail account by sign in to Gmail. In Gmail, every email is safely stored on the cloud. Gmail emails can also be accessed on local computers by email clients such as Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple Mail, etc. This post demonstrates the step by step method to setup Gmail account in Thunderbird. You can configure Gmail using either IMAP or POP.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Steps to Setup Gmail Account in Thunderbird<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Step 1: <\/strong>Enable IMAP<\/strong> or POP<\/strong> in Gmail.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    \r\n
  1. Sign in to Gmail<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
  2. Click on Gear icon<\/strong> and then select Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
  3. Click on Forwarding and POP\/IMAP<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\r\n
  4. Select Enable IMAP<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
  5. If you want to add Gmail account using POP then select Enable POP<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
  6. Click Save <\/strong>changes.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Step 2:<\/strong> Open Thunderbird and go to Tools menu<\/strong>, then click Account Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Note: If you are starting Thunderbird for the first time, move to step 4<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Step 3<\/strong>: Click on Account Actions<\/strong> and select Add Mail Account<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    For IMAP<\/strong>, server hostname- imap.gmail.com, port- 993\/143, SSL, authentication- Oauth2.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    For POP<\/strong>, server hostname- pop.gmail.com, port- 995\/110, SSL, authentication- Oauth2.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Step 8:<\/strong> Choose the outgoing protocol(common for both).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    SMTP<\/strong>:-server hostname- smtp.gmail.com, port- 465\/587\/25<\/em>, SSL, authentication- Oauth2.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Step 9:<\/strong> Click on Done<\/strong> button. A verification window will open. Enter your credentials and click on Allow<\/strong> button.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Step 10:<\/strong> Wait for Mozilla Thunderbird to synchronize your Gmail emails.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
